On Tuesday 7th June, Phil McGettrick, aged 79 gave her testimony at the Mass for Healing at Coláiste Íosagáin; extracts of which follow below.
I live in Portarlington. For the first 40 years of my life, having spent 21 years as a nun in England, I tried very hard to live a “good” life, but I didn’t know God’s love the way I do now. I believed God was judging me and testing me before he passed me and favoured me for his Kingdom.
I was a principal of a primary school in Bicester, Oxon and after 16 years was finding this quite hard as the children seemed to leave with little faith and I found prayer a great chore. I asked our Mother Superior for a change, perhaps to work with adults.
She said “give it one more year and I’ll pray for you”.
I did and during that year I found a prayer group, got baptised with the Spirit and spent nine more years in that school. Praise God there was a great change in my prayer life and the children began to respond to a more lively relationship with God. I was so excited and began to love scripture. It came alive and my prayer time was a total new experience.
I now discovered God loved me. He began to favour me with his protection and provision and worked great miracles in my life and in the life of the school. We started a prayer group in the convent and many young folks came in off the street every second Wednesday night to attend it. We saw many changed lives and miracles of healing.
I was in Galway hospital with e-coli and then was prepared for an operation for kidney stones. They were supposed to have been caused by the e-coli. I asked God to cancel the operation by healing me. The morning I was supposed to go to surgery at 11am, fasting and ready, no one came for me and still fasting at 2pm a doctor came up and said they had decided to cancel the operation and I could go home immediately.
Since I was healed in my kidneys I learned not to worry or have fear about anything. Jesus told us not to be anxious about anything.
I now know why. I know that God is love and loves us every moment of the day. He never forgets us. Praise him.
